Protect your information

  1. Back up files, photos, contacts, and account-recovery information that you want to keep.
  2. Sign out of accounts and remove the device from Find My Device, Find My iPhone, or another activation-lock service.
  3. Factory-reset the device when possible.
  4. Remove SIM cards, memory cards, and other removable storage.
  5. Ask the recipient what it does with hard drives and other data-bearing parts. Remove or destroy the storage device when its process does not meet your needs.
Check first: Do not put a swollen, leaking, recalled, or physically damaged lithium battery in a store collection bin. Use the Call2Recycle locator and safety guidance to find a site that handles the battery type, then contact that site before transporting it.
