Used motor oil and automotive fluids
Texarkana Water Utilities
The South Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant at 4000 South State Line Avenue accepts used motor oil from local residents Monday through Saturday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Call 903-798-3860 before the trip. It does not accept commercial oil, oil filters, transmission fluid, antifreeze, or other automotive fluids.
O'Reilly Auto Parts
O'Reilly's recycling program accepts used motor oil, compressor oil, power-steering fluid, gear oil, transmission fluid, hydraulic fluid, oil filters, and vehicle batteries. Its Texarkana directory lists stores at 1802 New Boston Road, 3707 North State Line Avenue, and 4907 West 7th Street. Call the chosen store first because fluid-tank capacity and store status can change.
Batteries
Vehicle batteries
The three Texarkana O'Reilly locations list used-oil and battery recycling. Use the store directory for the current phone number and hours, then confirm that the store will accept the battery.
Rechargeable household and tool batteries
The Home Depot's program accepts rechargeable batteries that weigh no more than 11 pounds and are rated below 300 watt-hours. Put each battery in a separate plastic bag. Do not take leaking or damaged batteries. The Texarkana store is at 4110 Saint Michael Drive; call 903-832-6002 if the battery type is unclear.
Single-use batteries
No Texarkana collection point for ordinary alkaline batteries was confirmed. Search by battery type and ZIP code in the Call2Recycle locator, then call the listed site before going. A locator result does not mean the site accepts every battery chemistry.
Compact fluorescent bulbs
ENERGY STAR says many Home Depot stores accept intact compact fluorescent bulbs at no charge. The Texarkana store page does not confirm this service, so call 903-832-6002 before taking bulbs to 4110 Saint Michael Drive. Ask separately about fluorescent tubes; a compact-bulb program does not necessarily accept them.
Paint
Paint someone can use
Keep the label intact and give usable paint to a person or organization that has agreed to accept it. Do not leave paint at a donation center without permission.
A nearly empty can in Texas
The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality says a can that is less than one-quarter full may be left open in a well-ventilated place until the contents are completely dry, then placed in the trash. Keep it away from children, animals, flames, and rain while it dries.
Liquid paint, stain, thinner, and solvent
No permanent Texarkana drop-off was confirmed for these materials. Keep the container closed and labeled. Do not pour the contents onto the ground, into a drain, or into a storm sewer. Use the local contacts below to ask about the next collection event or another approved option.
Propane cylinders
A serviceable grill cylinder
A cylinder exchange is usually the simplest option when the tank is an exchangeable 20-pound grill cylinder.
An unwanted, damaged, or out-of-date cylinder
Fricks Butane, 2307 East 9th Street, 870-774-5892, and Tractor Supply, 5001 North State Line Avenue, 903-791-8293, are local propane suppliers. Neither published page confirms disposal service. Call and describe the cylinder before taking it there. Do not put a cylinder in the trash, puncture it, or remove its valve.
Fuel, pesticides, solvents, pool chemicals, and mercury

Do not use ordinary collection
Texarkana, Texas excludes batteries, motor oil and filters, gasoline, and paint from bulk-waste collection. A city cleanup, recycling event, landfill, or curbside option should not be treated as a hazardous-waste option unless its current instructions name the material.
Before transport

- Keep the product in its original labeled container when possible.
- Do not mix products or pour them into a shared container.
- Close each container and keep it upright in a sturdy box or tray.
- Separate products that could react with one another.
