Separate leaves, grass, brush, and limbs from household junk. Both cities provide an option for prepared yard debris, and local residents can take larger clean loads to the regional composting center.

Texarkana, Texas curbside collection

Waste Management collects prepared yard waste on the regular weekly collection day. Put leaves, pine needles, grass clippings, and other small plant material in nonplastic biodegradable bags, cardboard boxes, or personal trash cans. Cut limbs to no more than 4 feet. Tie them in bundles that weigh no more than 40 pounds, and keep each limb at or below 3 inches in diameter.

Place the material at the curb by 7 a.m. Keep it separate from the green trash cart, yellow-lid recycling cart, and monthly bulk pile. Call Waste Management at 903-794-4111 or Texarkana, Texas Public Works at 903-798-3948 when the load exceeds those limits.

Texarkana, Arkansas curbside collection

Richardson Waste says it collects yard waste each Wednesday. Place leaves, limbs, and trimmings at least 2 feet from the curb. Yard-waste bags may weigh no more than 40 pounds, and each bag must contain yard waste only.

Call 870-779-1429 before setting out a large pile, a tree trunk, or material produced by a tree service. Ask how to prepare limbs and whether the volume requires a paid collection.

Take a clean load to the Composting Center

Location and hours

The Texarkana Water Utilities Composting Center is at the South Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant, 4000 South State Line Avenue. Published hours are Monday through Saturday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., except designated holidays. Call 903-798-3860 before loading the vehicle.

Accepted material

The center accepts leaves, grass clippings, brush, and tree prunings up to 12 inches in diameter and 8 feet long. It also accepts clean, untreated lumber and pallets.

Material it excludes

Do not take tree stumps, painted lumber, furniture, plywood, presswood, railroad ties, demolition wood, household garbage, plastic, paper, or concrete. Keep soil, rocks, bags, wire, and other contamination out of the load.

Use a different disposal option when the load is mixed

A load that contains fencing, furniture, demolition wood, plastic bags, concrete, soil, or trash is not clean yard debris. Separate the accepted plant material first. Use the guides for municipal bulk collection, construction debris, junk removal, or self-disposal for the remainder.

Check first: Do not place yard debris in a street, ditch, storm drain, or drainage channel. Keep piles away from parked vehicles, mailboxes, utility equipment, and overhead lines.
